Live Well. Laugh Often. Love Much.

KOOBITS!

Parents are often confused about how to best manage their children’s relationship with technology.

ME TOO!

Honestly, I really, really, really, really, REALLY do not quite fancy the idea of my girls spending their time on the tablet. But at the same time, I have to be realistic and fair. We are living in the world of technology. There is online learning these days. Computer classes in school. Doing holiday homework via online portal. Completing online assignments. As such, kids who are not exposed to them will be left far behind by their peers in school. So it is not possible to totally ban them from using the tablet, so to speak.

Rule of the thumb is, as long as we do not use the tablets as babysitters, we should be fine….RIGHT?

Experts recommend no more than one hour of screen time a day, and that should be balanced with an equal amount of time doing other real-world activities. But I do not quite agree with the experts. LOL. Instead of one hour a day, I give my girls one hour each on weekends and school holidays, on educational games or websites.

I AM ALWAYS ON THE QUEST TO LOOK FOR EDUCATIONAL GAMES RELATED TO MATHS, ENGLISH AND SCIENCE.

When I found out about ProblemSums by Koobits, which is a learning system for primary school students, I got excited and now, enthused!

WHAT IS EVERY PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENT’S BIGGEST FEAR WHEN IT COMES TO MATHEMATICS?

PROBLEM SUMS!

ABODEN?!

And the fact is, problem sums will never stop giving problems to the students AND US PARENTS!

Each girl of mine has an account of her own, according to her current level in school. So Mysha and Myreen will have Primary 1 problem sums for them to practise on while Sharleez has a Primary 2 account. They even get to choose their own profile picture! Want to upload their own face? Can also!

koo8

This is Myreen’s account. Look at her cute profile picture of Miko!

koo1

Every account is super personalized! As such, my girls feel like they have a responsibility over their own account. Cannot anyhow log in to each other’s account, you know? In fact, when Myreen saw me logging in to her account, she went,

“EH, MUMMY, WHY ARE YOU AT MY ACCOUNT? YOU WANT TO DO PRIMARY 1 MATHS IS IT?”

OK SORRY LOR.

For kids who will be entering primary 1, it will be a good practice for them if they sign up for the primary 1 account! Just saying because I do know of a lot of super anxious parents out there, me being one of them.

I really like how ProblemSums by Koobits encourages kids to keep trying through their customized daily activities that are designed based on the kid’s learning profile and ability over time.

 koo4

It’s not just about practising math through word problems. It’s about motivating your child to practise math through the online competitions, challenges and self practice. Your child can actually win badges and actual prizes! It all depends on how competitive or motivated your kid is.

They have a lot of activities and math practice that your child can choose from.

For example:

Self Practice:

This one is really suitable for kids who do not like competitions and just want to practice on their own and be comfortable with their own pace. Once they have mastered a particular topic/skill well, the coin will change its colour to gold. Just passed? The icon will change to green. Needs improvement? The icon will be red. Incomplete? The icon will be blue.

koo7

Needless to say, my girls are in love with the Self Practice.

koo6

And they get all the more motivated to try more sums whenever they see this!

 koo3

Homework:

koo4

Now, this homework is really good especially when I have to leave them at home, and I want them to have fun with the tablet while doing something educational. This is crucial because I do not want to feel guilty about my kids spending their time on the tablet while I am not around.

The best thing about it? I do not even have to mark the homework because the system will automatically mark the homework for them once they are done with it.

Daily Challenge:

The portal will assign 10 daily challenges for your kid to complete every single day. Once they answer correctly, they will get to earn challenge points.

koo9

Every kid will have his/her own points, which they will accumulate over time through the math practice, and challenges that they complete. They will also be able to see other kids’ points, just to motivate themselves to do better!

This is definitely for the confident and competitive kid who likes to be challenged. The problem sums will get more challenging along the way without a doubt!

koo5

Let us have a look at Primary 2 problem sums. Yup, I had to log in to Sharleez’s account for this one, and she just stared daggers at me.

For example, Challenge 1 will be a piece of cake.

KOO10

As the kid progresses to Challenge 2 and so forth, the problem sums will get tougher.

koobit2

What I especially like about Koobits is the fact that they will give the child the option to keep trying until he/she gets the correct answer.

KOO12

In other words, never give up. See, if the child gives up and asks for the answer, he/she will not be able to earn points. So obviously the child will not want to give up that easily. In fact, I have observed for myself how my girls will often try to solve the problem sums together. And that’s not even a bad thing.

koo1

They even have various kinds of awards for your kid to compete for like:

  • Hero of the Day
  • Top Brain
  • Champion Class
  • Boys vs Girls
  • Wizard School
  • Best Friends Forever

My girls are already bugging me because they cannot wait to log in to their Koobits to have their Math practice.

Try it for your kids, they will really love it!

ProblemSums by Koobits supports login from PC, Mac, iPad, Android or other tablets, and can be accessed from anywhere with Internet connection!

Just a little note parents. It is important that we manage our kids’ time on the tablet properly. If their enthusiasm for the tablet is not managed properly, this interest might turn into obsession and lead to early isolation characteristics with unpredictable consequences.
