Live Well. Laugh Often. Love Much.

Have courage, be kind.

When I was invited to the Grand Premiere of Disney’s Cinderella on the 7th March 2015, I RSVP-ed immediately, without even thinking twice.

I would not want to miss it for the world.

JUST LOOK AT MY ROYAL INVITE!

See, no matter how old, I will always have a soft spot for Cinderella and anything Disney.

Imagine my girls’ excitement when I told them that we were going to watch Cinderella?

“MUMMY, YOU ARE THE BEST!”

“THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS MAKING US HAPPY!”

“YOU KNOW US BEST, MUMMY!”

Without a doubt, ladies. 😀

The event was basically everything related to Cinderella. We felt like we were attending a ball, just like Cinderella. We had one problem though; I was not dressed like a princess, with my doc martens and all. So rugged! Well, I was not expecting a real ball! HAHA.

But my girls made up for it big time by dressing up like princesses.

Well, sort of.

They even had a Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) showcase of Cinderella inspired dresses!

My favourite has got to be the stepmother’s gown!

This is the sketch.

And this, the actual gown.

 cin12

This one must be the Fairy Godmother!

Truly impressive. Well done, NAFA!

The moment the clock struck midnight 8 pm, we made our way to the Mastercard Theatres and waited with bated breath for the premiere to begin!

YOU WILL BE PLEASED TO KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO WATCH THE PREMIERE OF THE ALL-NEW SHORT “VER” RIGHT BEFORE DISNEY’S CINDERELLA!

 frozenfever

Yes yes, Frozen fans, you can definitely expect the same blend of sweetness and silliness from this new short story. You have to got watch this one. Why Frozen Fever? Well, it has something to do with Elsa falling sick on Anna’s birthday.

To be fair, I am not going to say anything more in the interest of avoiding spoilers! LOL.

Tell me now, what do you remember most about Cinderella?

By the raise of hands (not that I can see you doing that), how many of you actually dressed up as Cinderella or any other princess when you were just a little girl? How many of you imagined yourself marrying a handsome prince? How many of you wished that you would grow up as pretty as Cinderella?

I DID, OKAY?

So did my wishes come true? Let me see.

Wish 1: Marry a handsome prince

Okay lah, I got married to Tatek instead of a handsome prince. Quite handsome though not a prince, so I am not complaining. (Or am I? LOL.)

Wish 2: Grow up as pretty as Cinderella.

I have learnt as I grow older that beauty is not only about how pretty you look. What matters more is the inside. I know, it’s so cliché that it makes you want to puke, right? But it’s true, isn’t it?

So, I was just expecting another Cinderella movie with the same storyline. Cinderella becomes a slave to her stepmother and stepsisters. Cinderella feels sad. Cinderella keeps singing to the birds. Cinderella meets the fairy godmother. Cinderella goes to the ball. Cinderella meets the prince charming. Cinderella runs when the clock strikes midnight. Cinderella leaves behind one glass slipper. Prince Charming looks for her. Prince Charming marries her. And they live happily ever after.

Well yes, the movie is more or less similar to the hundreds of versions of the story you have watched or read before. It’s a very spry and playful movie. You cannot help but to stay glued to the screen, so to speak. You will definitely fall in love with Lily James who plays Cinderella in the movie. Her twinkling eyes and sparkling smile will definitely captivate everyone. And the tiny friends (the mice) are sooooo cute, you cannot help but to wish that you could own a pet mouse too.

Even the stunning stepmother played by Cate Blanchett is not exactly as evil as evil. She kept us entertained with her antics as well as with her two daughters’ silly antics. I was secretly rooting for her since well, she has a good fashion sense in Cinderella.

Another character, which I fell in love with, has got to be the Fairy Godmother, played by Helena Bonham Carter. Unlike other fairy godmothers, this one is a bit rusty with her magic so be prepared to be amused by her while she transforms Cinderella and everything else necessary for the ball.

Above all, there are a lot of values that your kids and yourself can bring home after watching it.

“Have courage and be kind” – the main mantra in the movie for the kids and us to ponder on. You can be fearless in life, but you do not have to necessarily trample the weak while you are at it.

Cinderella will definitely enthrall you with its ravishing style and undying message of decency, and kindness triumphing over evil. The movie is just the way every kid would imagine romance to be, if I may add. (I caught Sharleez blushing and almost close to tears several times during the movie.)
