How to make a pizza?

My girls are so into cooking and they love their pizza a lot!

So I brought them and my good friend Sabby to Doughworkz family bonding class the other time! The husband had a soccer match so he could not accompany us, unfortunately.

ooo

But anyway.

WHAT IS DOUGHWORKZ FAMILY BONDING CLASS PLEASE?

Doughworkz by PastaMania is a monthly pasta and pizza making class customised for children from 4 to 12 years old.

At Doughworkz, children become mini masterchefs and make their own pizza from scratch! Yes, they will be given their own chef’s hat and apron.

pm16
img_2179

Plus, they will also get to enjoy their handmade pizza at the end of the session too.

My girls were really excited to know that they would be making their own pizza. But right before they started with the pizza making, they were introduced to the basics of food preparation hygiene by the friendly Doughworkz team! They also got to learn interesting facts about pasta and pizza to expand their food knowledge.

Let’s make pizza now!

Step 1

First, make sure the surface is clean and dry. Heap flour onto it.

The girls did not have to make the dough from scratch because the Doughworkz team already demonstrated how to make the dough and shaped it into balls for all the participants.

pm19

Step 2

So the next step is to use the pressure of both hands to flatten the dough.

img_2177

Step 3

Then, use the fingertips and middle of fingers to gently stretch into a flat circle. Keep pushing the edges out until you get the desired size.

Step 4

Spread the sauce evenly on the base.

Step 5:

Since the theme for the class the other day was Halloween, the challenge was for the participants to decorate the pizza with the toppings and make it as scary looking as possible! Of course I had to get myself involved in this activity. So I helped Mysha with the decorating part!

Sabby was so engrossed with her pizza too!

Step 6:

Time to bake the pizza!

Look at my proud girls with their baked pizza!

Step 7:

Time to eat!

img_2199

No pizza will ever taste as fresh as it does when you eat it straight from the oven! And we got to do just that during the Doughworkz class!

Oh guess what?

Mysha was one of the winners for the BEST DECORATED PIZZA! Sabby’s pizza won too! They each won a scoop of ice-cream!

HURRAYYYYYY!

My girls had lots of fun kneading the dough and decorating their own pizza, definitely. I had a lot of fun too snapping their photos and helping them out with the pizza making. Definitely a great way to bond with the kids!

One thing for sure, it was not THAT EASY to knead the dough to the perfect shape, size and thickness! Thank goodness the Doughworkz guys were always around to assist us!

At the end of the class, my little chefs got to bring home with a goodie bag of mini apron, chef hat, certificate and a photo of them in the cute getup.

But of course we did not go home right away. How could we leave PastaMania without dining there? Wait a minute, you do know that Pastamania is halal-certified right?

Everyone ordered the usual.

Seafood Marinara for me!

Carbonara Pasta for Sabby

And kids’ meals for my girls!

I totally forgot to order my favourite Banana Pizza! You must try their Banana Pizza, guys! Its basically thin crust pizza with banana and chocolate shavings toppings.

YUMMYYYYYYYY!

Doughworkz kid’s class is at $28 per child and family bonding class cost $55 per parent and child pair.

You can book a session for your kid or with their friends for a fun get-together party! Sounds like fun!

The classes are available at:

My girls and the other participants each received these too at the end of the class:

Of women and cars.

Whoever said ladies are bad drivers?

GRRRRR.

And whoever said women know nothing about cars?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Where’s your scientific evidence, please?

But even if we know nothing about driving or cars, we can always count on reliable car shops like Autobacs to make us more car-smart than some men out there. Sheesh.

aub1

Recently, I made a trip to the newly revamped Autobacs at Bukit Batok to shop for some car accessories and also to have my car checked! After all, I was entitled to a FREE 50 POINT CHECK. What’s that? Read on!

I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED GOING TO AUTOBACS, EVEN BEFORE I HAD MY DRIVING LICENSE OR CAR!

There’s just something about the place that will make me wander through the isles before ending up shopping for car accessories! They have such a huge range of everything related to car parts and accessories.

aub6

Hello Kitty fans, anyone?

au11

Another reason why I really love Autobacs is because of the fact that the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable about the products they are selling!

Now, believe me, I was never a car kind of person. My husband has always been the one in charge of the car maintenance and grooming (and he is really strict about it). The only thing I’m in charge of will be the car scents, which I keep changing. HAHA.

au24

I used to avoid going to car workshops because I know nuts about the technical aspects of the car, and I had this idea that the car mechanics will make fun of my car maintenance knowledge should I send my car to the workshop on my own.

But my visit to Autobacs at Bukit Batok that day without my husband was indeed an eye-opener and hence, this post.

Before I go on, let me take a selfie at Autobacs.

au22

Would you believe me if I were to tell you that I learnt a lot within an hour of visit? The staff at Autobacs are always ready to assist you and tell you more about the car products or accessories. So female drivers, you do not have to feel shy or intimidated. Just ask them and they will be more than willing to assist you because female drivers are treated like VIPs at Autobacs.

Let me talk a bit about tires!

For a start, did you know that the functionality of the tire depends on the thread design?

aub8

au1

There are three types of tread designs:

Directional : for sports handling

au4

Symmetrical: for comfort and low noise

au3

Asymmetrical: for balanced and all rounded performance

au2

And have you always wondered why some branded tires can really be sold at low prices sometimes?

It is because of their manufacturing year! In other words, they will sell you tires that were manufactured years ago at low prices, just to clear their stocks.

SO WHAT? STILL CHEAP, WHAT!

Well, here’s the thing. Tires are made of rubber. Rubber degrades with age. Factors like sunlight, heat, ice and general wear and tear can accelerate the breakdown of a tire. Once a tire begins to break down, it is more likely to fail often at highway speeds. What can the failure cause? Catastrophic injuries or death.

The expiration date of tires should be six year from the date of manufacture. But have you ever been told that by the car workshop you go to replace your tires?

Let me now show you how smart I am teach you what Autobacs taught me. HAHA.

Ok look at the tire below for example.

au5

The date your tires were made will be on the sidewall in the form of four numbers usually preceded by the letters DLH. These numbers represent the week number and year, so 0916 will be week 09, 2016. Use that information to make sure you’re buying tires with the longest shelf life possible and not those expired ones.

And I discovered some good stuff too which I think you should consider buying because I am buying all of them!

AQuality Rubber tray mat

(can only be found at Autobacs)

 au7

Parents with small kids, you will so need this too!

This is a removable 3D floor mat which will trap dirt within the mat. It prevents any water or dust going onto the original carpet floor mat. Ideal to be used after going to sandy, muddy places or on rainy days.

My girls always have to ensure that their shoes are really clean before entering the car. But kids being kids, will somehow get it wrong and end up dirtying the floor mat.

au16

Their Daddy will always be so grumpy when he sees the mess because it’s always him who has to do the cleaning up. So I think he will really find this rubber trat mat useful!

AQuality Deodorizer

(can only be found at Autobacs)

au10

This is a gel type of odor remover in cars, placed under the front car seat. It removes unwanted smell in the cars.

We always think twice about buying durians and putting them in the car because of the strong smell which will sometimes take days to completely go away. So this Autobacs Deodorizer is really something we need for the car. I am a durian lover – no way will I forsake buying durians!

DRIVER TRAY

au8

This one is good if you are always on the go and have to eat or do your work (which will normally require a table) in the car!

They also have something similar for the rear!

au9

I mentioned earlier that female drivers are treated like VIPS at Autobacs!

That is why they have the additional benefits for all female drivers who purchase anything at Autobacs!

Autobacs @ Bukit Batok will give female drivers an additional of 5% discount with every $50 purchase in a single receipt for accessories, car care items and car repairing product.

But men, don’t sad! Autobacs love you just as much too!

There is also a special offer for all of my readers on blog and IG, FB which I will mention at the end of the post!

I received a complimentary 50-point check for my car and brought along my kids to Autobacs Ubi for the check. Remember I mentioned that I will tell you more about this?

Okay now, what is a 50 point check?

It’s like a thorough body check up when you visit the doctor, only that this one is done on your car!

au17

And while you wait for your car to be checked or serviced, you can wait comfortably at their lounge! Best thing is, you can have a good view of your car from the lounge, regardless of the Autobacs store you visit.

This is the newly revamped lounge at Autobacs Bukit Batok.

aub2

aub3

Enjoy a full body massage while waiting.

au15

Or a cup of hot latte or cold iced lemon tea.

And some snacks, maybe.

au14

Plus, you get a clear view of your car too!

I asked my girls to bring along their storybooks so that they could do their reading while we waited for our car to be ready.

au18

And since the lounge is fully air-conditioned, Shakeel was so comfortable and either kept quiet or slept all the way.

#LIKEABOSS THIS BOY.

au21

After the check was done for my car, the (handsome) mechanic called me to the pit to REVEAL the condition of my car.

au20

I even brought the girls to the pit to have a closer look.

au25

At this point, you must be saying this,

“AIYAH SURE THEY WILL SAY THERE ARE MANY THINGS THAT NEED TO BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED! FEMALE DRIVER SURE KENA KETUK ONE!”

NAH YOU ARE SO WRONG!

On the overall, my car is pretty alright except for some minor faults. And no, they do not believe in hard selling. They gave me the checklist and told me to go home to discuss with my hubby before deciding. They did not tell me stuff that I often hear mechanics at typical car workshops telling us like “WAH YOU BETTER DO NOW AH. YOUR CAR REALLY IN BAD CONDITION ALREADY.”

And oh, while you are at Autobacs, you should also register as a club member of Autobacs! It is FREE and by joining as a club member, you will get to enjoy the following privileges:

Club membership benefits:

1) Free car towing service 24Hr 7days

2) Members’ only special promotion

3) Extended car repair 1 year warranty

The Little Fella’s Birth Story

You have been waiting for this rightttttttt?

I have been trying to find the time to put together my birth story. Whatever time I had, I typed out in my notepad first as I lay in bed while my baby was sleeping or while I was nursing him.

Here it goes.

When I went for my last gynae check up on 4 August 2016, I was secretly hoping for some progress because I was already 39weeks and 2 days pregnant.

The attending gynae did some serious digging VE on me before telling me that my cervix was still far, far, farrrrrr behind.

This was my Facebook update after that checkup.

bs28

bs29

The day before the check up, I also had my massage session and my Nenek Urut told me that my tummy was still high up. She was right. Everyone told me the same thing too.

“Relax, your tummy still very high. It will not be anytime soon.”

OKAY FINE.

So yeah, I was already prepared to wait till my 40th week and give birth to an overdue baby.

But I was secretly hoping that I could still give birth to him on the 5th somehow.

5 has always been my favourite number ley.

5 August 2016:

When I went to bed that night, I could not sleep well. Things did not seem right. At about 3 am, the contractions started. I was actually unsure at first. After all, this was the first time I got to really experience contractions naturally Previous pregnancies,  I was induced and contractions came later by force. So okay, I started to monitor the contractions. They kept coming and going. Strong. Persistent. Repetitive. They started to come really close together unlike the normal lame Braxton Hicks contractions. So I just had the urge to start timing. True enough, they came every 4 to 5 minutes. And they continued to come and go all the way.

When the girls were getting ready for school, I was still in bed timing the contractions because I am a freak like that. Still 4 to 5 minutes apart. Painful, yes. But bearable still. That was about 6 am.

At 7 am, just when Tatek and the girls left the house for school, I saw a dark pink mucusy discharge with a tinge of red.

IT WAS THE BLOODY SHOW!

So I called Tatek ever so calmly and said,

“B, I think right, it’s time. But no worries, I want to shower first.”

He panicked lah obviously. Forever panicking, this guy.

He was like,

“Alamak! REALLY??? Ok ok you faster get ready now!”

I asked him to pass the phone to the girls and I informed them one by one that I would be going to the hospital soon. Told them what they needed to do upon reaching home from school and explained to my helper what needed to be done also.

I then took a nice warm shower (because that’s what almost everyone who is in labour will do before she goes to the hospital) despite the contractions which kept coming.

Still bearable.

Got myself ready. And yes, I do mean putting on makeup. I figured why not? Since I could still do it, then do it. I wanted to look reasonably okay when I greeted my boy, bearing in mind that I have this birth story to put up. So thoughtful of me, huh? Want to give birth also still think of my blog readers.

Hur Hur.

Here you go. My last picture with my tummy.

I am actually already missing it as I am typing this (with a flabby tummy as a replacement).

BS1

39 weeks 3 days pregnant – that was how long I carried my boy in my tummy.

So anyway, we bought KFC for breakfast. My breakfast was the porridge and the chicken burger.

YA I ATE BOTH. CANNOT AH?

I told Tatek to let him satisfy my final cravings before confinement.

He was like “Ya ya ya.”

Ate inside the car on the way to KKH, of course.

Reached the delivery suite at about 9.50 am.

bs2

The nurse asked whether I wanted to self admit myself or whether I wanted to be given painkillers so that I could go home and manage the contractions.

I requested for self admission, duh!

“Just give birth already lah!” I was telling myself.

I was given delivery room number 12. No significance actually the number. But just telling you lah.

bs10

Changed into my white hospital gown woohoooooooooo! #OOTD

bs25

Time check: 10.02 am

bs3

Since Dr Suzanna was still on leave till 6 pm, Dr Jessie Phoon attended to me.

She came in at about 11 am to say hello before doing a VE.

“You are already 3 cm! Good job! Yesterday your cervix was still not ready. Must be the VE I did on you!”

I think so too, doc.

So from 11 am I was just lying down, checking my nails, and tolerating the contractions.

No lah, actually was already in so much pain.

Look at my face.

bs4

And then I did some mental calculation too.

3 cm at 11 am.
I would most probably be 10 cm at night.
Contractions were already unbearable because they were 3 minutes apart.

There was no time to recuperate from one before the next one hit.

So should I lie down, get the contractions to accompany me till night and be in a very, very very, bad mood meanwhile?
Or should I opt for epidural and be happy and calm so that I could reserve my energy and then concentrate on giving birth when the time comes?

Of course I decided to opt for the latter.

Time check: 12.10 pm

Epidural was administered.
And unlike the previous ones where the husband was not allowed to be inside, this time round Tatek was allowed to be inside – not to observe how the epidural was administered, but to distract me while it was being administered. After all, we are talking about my back being jabbed by big needles.

Ewwwwww.

bs5

After it was done, I was lying down happily. I even took a selfie because I was thinking, “Yay cannot really feel the pain now.”

bs6

Pretty or act pretty? Doesn’t matter because I was in pain again soon after the picture above. LOL.

I started to notice that only the right side of my body was numb even after twenty minutes. The left side was not. I could still feel the painful contractions on the left side. LIKE SUPER PAINFUL! So I asked the nurse whether it was normal.

Apparently the reason why that happened was because I was lying down on my side and facing the left right after the epidural was administered. Not my fault actually because the nurse requested I lie down in such a manner so that they could detect the baby’s heartbeat.

They inserted a higher dosage of epidural in order to numb the left side of my body a bit more.

Time check: 3.15 pm

5 cm dilated

“Wow that was fast!” I thought to myself.

Mind you, I was not induced this time round, unlike the previous TWO pregnancies with my THREE girls. So it was really like a first time experience for me. I was pretty excited actually to know that my cervix dilated naturally.

While waiting for time to pass by, I listened to all the Surah collection that I have compiled for my baby and myself. Special thanks to my family friend Liyanah for preparing for me the list of dua to ease my labour, and personally delivering air zamzam to my house for me! She did not have to, but she did! So touched by her kind gesture.

Okay back to the birth story.

The husband was really wide awake this time round. Thank goodness he managed to have a good night sleep the night before so he was very alert and attentive to my needs this time round. And oh, he helped me take a lot of photos too! LOL. Guess he was just excited to see his son.

He even took a picture of his Husband’s Pass!

bs24

And he arranged the baby clothes before taking a picture!

bs23

Meanwhile, my girls were at home waiting anxiously for me to give birth. They were already dressed for the hospital and waiting for the right time to rush to the hospital! Yes, they were that eager to meet their baby brother.

Meanwhile, they did whatever I had told them to do!

They showered and ate their lunch.

bs8

They did their school work.

bs9

They performed their prayers with my helper.

bs7

Awwwwwwwwww.

My mum took the pictures above and updated me via the family group chat.

So sweet of them, right? <3

For every progress I made, Tatek would also update the family group chat so that everyone was well-informed.

Time check: 5.47 pm

8 cm dilated

OH MY GOD!

The midwife on duty asked me whether I already felt the sensation to push.

AHHHH SENSATION!
Been so long since I last heard that word.
You can click HERE to get what I mean.

But no lah, no sensation yet.
Didn’t feel any pressure down there even.
And besides, it was not 6 pm yet.
I wanted to wait for my gynae Dr Suzanna!

Oh, my water bag broke somewhere in between. I didn’t even feel wet down there. I only realized it broke when the midwife told me. I was like, “Oh water bag broke already? Okay!” LOL.

At about 6.15 pm, Dr Suzanna arrived and she screamed,

“Diahhhhhhhh! Baby waiting for me is it?”

Noting the fact that I was already 8 cm dilated, Dr Suzanna told me that I was making really good progress so far since everything happened naturally without having the need to induce.

“Since everything is progressing on its own, do expect a faster labour this time round, Diah.”

Ya. I think she said something like that lah.

Time check: 6.30 pm

Dr Suzanna did another check down there and said ever so casually,

“Diah, I can see your baby’s head already, you know? His hair is so thick! Husband, you want to see?”

Tatek took a look and told me excitedly,

“B, his hair very thick! I can see his head already!”

Dr Suzanna continued,
“Diah, you wanna push now or wait till you feel the sensation? If you push now, baby will be out in about two pushes only. Wanna try?”

Of course that made me want to push baby out all the more!

I could not wait to see the cheeky little fella who had been kicking me so much during my pregnancy.

Time check: 6.43 pm

So I started doing my thing.
Took a super deep breath, exhaled and gave a long pushhhhhhhhhh like I wanted to pass motion like that.

“Excellent Diah! Just one more long push! You are doing well! We might not even need to stitch you up!”

Time check: 6.48 pm

I gave it one more long push and the little fella was out!

5 MINUTES OF PUSHING???!!!!!!

bs19

I was like, “Eh that’s it? Baby’s out? Seriously?”

bs26

I couldn’t grasp it even then. It was all just happening so fast and I wanted to savor it all.

But hey,

HELLO LITTLE FELLA!

(I waited forever for your arrival and ended up shopping too much, you know?!)

When I went for my last checkup with the gynae the day before I gave birth, I was told that baby’s estimated weight was around 2.8 kg to 2.9 kg.

But errrmmm.

bs12

I am just so excited to introduce my boy to the world!

Born on 5 August 2016 at 6.48 PM, weighing 3.54 kg and measuring 51 cm.

: Shakeel Adly :

bs18

bs20

bs22

Shakeel means: Handsome & good looking.

Adly means: Of fairness and justice

Insya’allah.

I was told that the moment Tatek updated the family group chat when baby was out, my girls jumped and shouted uncontrollably. Then they rushed and pestered my parents to quickly drive them to the hospital so that they could see their baby brother.

LOLOL.

And they waited along the corridor outside the delivery suite with a bouquet of flowers for me, no less.

bs13

Oh, they even got a gift for their baby brother!

It’s a baby shark keychain!

bs30

“His name is Shakeel right Mummy? So we got him a Baby Shark because his nickname is going to be that!”

EXCELLENT IDEAS, GIRLS!

Can my daughters get any sweeter than this?

I know they are going to be the best sisters to their baby brother!

bs27

And as my way of saying thank you to them and to reaffirm the fact that I love them no less now that the baby brother is out, I surprised them with a gift each which I had prepared weeks before I gave birth.

bs15

Of course they were so thrilled to receive the gifts, and even happier after they unwrapped their gifts.

Oh there is another picture that I must share with you –  my mum sitting on the floor with my girls while waiting for us to be out from the delivery suite.

bs14

Really a touching sight, right? So much love for all them lah. <3

Big thank you to my family and everyone else for your prayers and well-wishes.

Thank you to my husband for being there throughout for me, and for being so patient with me. <3

As usual, my big family came to visit on the same day. Every single one of them. Needless to say, the hospital ward was as noisy as a wet market with their presence! LOLOLOLOL.

BUT I LOVE THEM ALL LAHHHH!

bs31

Special thanks to the best gynae in the whole wide world, Dr Suzanna Sulaiman from KKH! All my checkups with her had been nothing but pleasant and stress free! She is such an easygoing gynae, and is also so assuring and encouraging.

bs32

And I do not know how she did what she did when I was in labour, but she was really so cool, calm and relaxed all the way. I just love her strong positive aura!

bs11

So yes, I will highly recommend her if you are looking for a gynae but do be prepared to wait and wait because she is one of the most popular gynaes at KKH! Don’t say I never warned you. 😀

Okay I am done with the birth story.

Alhamdullilah for this easy labour. I couldn’t have done it without your prayers and support all along.

Sorry I took more than a week. I am after all a mother to four kids now. *gulps*

It all seemed like a blur, getting pregnant, my pregnancy, labour – it felt like a blip in time.

Still adjusting.

Still trying to adapt to changes.

Still trying to learn to divide my time.

Still getting used to breastfeeding and sore nipples.

Still trying to get the hang of expressing milk.

Still getting used to wearing hideous maternity bras which only make my boobs sag even more.

Still getting used to rushing every time and all the time.

Still trying to get used to the idea of having a baby yet again. (The last time I had a baby babies was eight years ago!)

But I am definitely so in love with my baby Shakeel.

This boy means a lot to me. A lot.

I didn’t have it easy during the first few months of pregnancy. Very challenging. Very depressing. Now that he’s here, it feels like everything is finally in place. I am going to do the best I can and take really good care of him.

I will never ever forget what it feels like to long for your baby being handed in your arms – it’s so real, you can touch it. There is so much more I could write and I will – in the chapters of my life to come.

But for now, this is the birth story of Shakeel Adly, my fourth child and only boy.

bs33

I am complete now.

(Okay fine I remember saying “I am complete” so many times before his arrival. But this time, I am really, really, reaaaalllllly complete!)

A Reason to Smile.

Every kid deserves a pretty smile, with AND without teeth showing.

So when Sharleez’s baby teeth started to fall out one by one and her permanent teeth first poked through, she started to be really conscious about her smile and her set of big new teeth. There was once she looked at the mirror and casually said,

“Mummy, I think I look like a beaver with these funny looking teeth!”

brace10

NAWWWW MY POOR GIRL. CANNOT BE THAT BAD.

It is not about her being self-conscious at such a young age. It is about how it can result in a low self-esteem in the long run. Some may even experience social anxiety as they also avoid conversations; especially with people they do not know. Children especially will be affected as they sometimes feel embarrassed at how their teeth may look to their friends. The possibility of being teased at school will cause shyness, isolation or reluctance to participate in school activities.

I DO NOT WANT THAT TO HAPPEN TO MY GIRL!

So I decided to find out more about Orthodontics, especially after I noticed that some of my friends’ kids are already wearing braces despite being about the same age as Sharleez.

I was like,

“How come they can start wearing braces so early?”

After much research, I made an appointment with Dr Ooi Jing Liang from DePacific Dental (Balestier) because he is one of the few dentists here who does early orthodontic treatment for kids. Not that many dentists offer the said service, if you must know.

Let me ask you a question first before I carry on.

Can one only start to wear braces once all the baby teeth are gone and the permanent teeth are already in place?

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

(But I used to think like you too.)

There is usually no fixed rule as to when we should start braces. However the American Association of Orthodontists recommends children from age 7 to be seen for an assessment of their facial and dental growth patterns.

In other words, Sharleez should have seen Dr Ooi Jing Liang earlier! She is 9 now!

(AND I THOUGHT WE WERE EARLY!)

BUT LIKE THEY SAY, BETTER LATE THAN NEVER.

In general most children start wearing braces when their last permanent teeth drops out, which usually occurs from 11-14. However in certain cases, it is of great importance to intervene earlier to prevent the problems from getting worse which would then lead to more uncomfortable and longer treatment for the child in future.

Some examples where early treatment is required are:

1) Impacted teeth (When adult teeth are blocked and do not have sufficient space to erupt due to crowding)

2) Crossbite (when the upper and lower teeth do not meet in the correct way)

3) Jaw discrepancy (upper or lower jaw being too forward relative to each other)

There are times also when early intervention is not recommended and we would advise the child to wait till all his/her permanent teeth are out. As every child is different, it would is strongly recommended to see the dentist early so that the dentist can give you all the options available for your child.

Sharleez had her X-Ray done and Dr Ooi Jing Liang discovered that her adult teeth did not have sufficient space in her mouth to erupt and this is causing the crowding of teeth. Crowding of teeth means that she needed to extract some in order for the rest of her permanent teeth to have more space to grow in place.

So Dr Ooi arranged to have Sharleez’s baby canines extracted. Two top, and two bottom.

The anxious me wanted Sharleez to have all four baby canines to be extracted at the same time. LOL.

But Dr Ooi suggested to have two extracted first so that Sharleez would not be too overwhelmed with the whole process.

When Sharleez first heard that she needed to extract four teeth, she panicked and started asking so many questions like,

“Will it hurt, Mummy?”

“Mummy, what if I cannot take the pain?”

“Must I really extract my teeth?”

Dr Ooi however assured Sharleez that there would be minimal discomfort. He even told Sharleez that he would not carry on with the procedure if Sharleez experienced pain and wanted him to stop.

That made her at ease, somehow. So we fixed a date for the first extraction to be done!

EXTRACTION DAY:

That’s my girl! Showing the peace sign because everything would be alright.

Many patients fear going to a dentist because of pain. This is even more so for a child.

At DePacific Dental (Balestier), the extraction of teeth are done with as little discomfort as possible.

It is really true! I witnessed everything myself, and I was there with Sharleez throughout.

brace7

Sharleez was surprisingly calm and composed that day.

Dr Ooi made it a point to give the local anaesthetic to Sharleez slowly to minimize any discomfort.

brace8

He would stop every now and then to check on her and whether she was doing alright. Even his assistant Linda, was really comforting and helpful too in ensuring that Sharleez did not feel so tensed.

brace3

I like how Dr Ooi does not rush through every procedure but instead takes his time each time. That alone is enough to gain the trust from Sharleez.

Sharleez was also able to watch the TV during the whole procedure. Dr Ooi actually played Kung Fu Panda for her while her teeth were being extracted.

In fact, he did not get straight to the extraction business as soon as Kung Fu Panda was played. He chit-chatted with Sharleez about Kung Fu Panda and asked who her favorite character is in the story.

brace5

Distraction is indeed a powerful tool in allaying one’s fears, isn’t it?

At DePacific Dental (Balestier), the dentists are trained to give a painless injection by firstly using a numbing gel to numb the tissues that the local anaesthesia would be placed. The dental assistant will then place a massager around the cheeks to further distract the patient and the dentist will give the injection slowly and steadily to minimise any discomfort to the patient.

The numbing took some time because as mentioned, Dr Ooi wanted to minimize any discomfort to Sharleez.

Dr Ooi explained to me,

“It is very important to go slow and steady. The  moment she starts to feel any pain and discomfort, that’s when she will not want to continue with the rest of the procedure. In fact, I would not want to continue with the procedure either.”

But once the numbing process was done and it was time for extraction, everything was done within less than 2 minutes!

Yes, within 2 minutes, two of Sharleez’s baby canines were extracted!

 brace2

SO FAST? I DID NOT EVEN HAVE TIME TO TAKE SOME PICS OF THE EXTRACTION PROCESS!

brace6

Dr Ooi then mentioned that Sharleez was not to eat anything for a few hours. And should she experience pain or discomfort once the numbness was gone, then she should take some painkillers.

But Sharleez did not even experience any sort of pain once the numbness was gone. She immediately asked for food. And there I was, well prepared with a bottle of paracetamol for her.

 brace4

Things were back to normalcy within 3-4 hours, and she ate like a glutton the moment the numbness went away.

So what’s next after extraction?

PUTTING ON THE BRACES!

But that will be for my next post.

Sorry to make you wait!

MUAHAHAHAHA.

Sharleez looks really cute with braces, by the way. 😀

Hari Raya with Ribena

Now that Hari Raya is approaching, feasting and fizzy drinks will definitely be on your agenda, yes?

I cannot wait to feast too! After all, this will be my final chance to do so before I give birth and confinement food starts to haunt my life for a while. HAHA.

Speaking of drinks, I think I will instead go for a healthier alternative – something rich in Vitamin C with no artificial flavouring, sweetener nor colouring, and something that can also be used to create various types of simple dishes, dessert and beverages for Hari Raya.

Yes, I am referring to Ribena Cordial.

I simply love making different kinds of beverages using Ribena Cordial for my girls and myself!

For the upcoming Hari Raya, try preparing Ribena Longan & Lime drink your guests!

ribs4

Ingredients:

  • 1 glass of cold water
  • Ribena Cordial to taste (adjust the sweetness accordingly)
  • 3 Lime with juice extracted
  • Longan fruits
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: Sparkling Ribena to taste (for that extra kick!)

How to prepare:

Need you ask? Just add everything together and your Ribena Longan & Lime Drink is ready for your guests, young and old.

Really a refreshing drink, this one! The sweetness of the Ribena Cordial goes really well with the sourness of the lime. And the longan fruits added is definitely a treat for the kids!

My girls had so much fun preparing the drink and each of them added the Ribena Cordial to their drink according to their own personal preference.

ribs1

Who doesn’t love Ribena? It is definitely every kid’s favourite drink.

ribs3

I wouldn’t mind my girls drinking Ribena over and over again during the festive season instead of all those fizzy drinks.

ribs2

The best thing about Ribena is that you can adjust the sweetness level according to your preference. What’s more, Ribena is made with 100% blackcurrants from New Zealand, and does not contain artificial sweetener, flavouring and colour.

Here are two other easy recipes that you can have fun making with your kids this Hari Raya! Refreshing and perfect for the hot weather!

Ribena Berry Nice Smoothie

ribs5

Recipe:

  • 1 Banana
  • 1 cup of chopped strawberries
  • 1 cup of fresh milk
  • Half to one cup of Ribena Cordial (depending on your preference)
  • 1 spoonful of honey (depending on your preference)
  • Ice cubes

How to make? Blend everything together!

Refreshing and cooling!

Fruity Ribena Soda

ribs6

Recipe:

  • 1 Cup chopped strawberries
  • 1 Cup blueberries
  • 1 cup logan
  • 1 cup orange / peach
  • Ribena Cordial to taste
  • Chilled soda drink
  • Ice cubes

Mix everything into your favourite cup (best to use a colourless one to see the pretty colours pop!)

Stir everything and drink.

YUMMYYYYYYYYYY! Enjoy!

Here’s wishing all my Muslim followers a Selamat Hari Raya!
