Treasure Island by SRT

Ahoy mates! How be you?

How about free tickets t’ watch Treaaye Island?

I meant to ask, how about free tickets to watch Treasure Island by SRT’S The Little Company?

Hehe. We went to watch Treasure Island just a week ago at SRT.

srt4

srt3

Come on, it is an open secret by now – WE LOVE SRT/TLC PRODUCTIONS!

Go on, tell everyone.

I will also try to dress the girls up according to the theme whenever possible. 🙂

srt9

srt2

We first started attending their plays in 2012. That was like 3 years ago when Sharleez was 5 and my twins were 3! Ever since then, we have been hooked and have been going to all of their productions! Their plays and musicals are suitable for kids aged 3-12 supposedly but hey, if adults like me and my husband are entertained just as well all the time, then I guess their plays and musicals are suitable for everyone!

srt5

Their current production is Treasure Island.

SRT8

I insist that you must bring your kids to watch this production!

srt11

What is it about?

A new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s popular novel of the same name, Treasure Island follows the adventure of Jim Hawkins, a lion-hearted 13-year-old girl who receives a treasure map from a kooky old seaman. Jim is tasked to help find the hidden treasure, but the road to riches is never smooth sailing.

A swashbuckling, action-packed musical about friendship and trust. This exhilarating show for the entire family will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Source: SRT

Why bring the kids to watch this?

  1. Teaches children the importance of loyalty and friendship, and to practise discernment in those they chose to place their trust in.
  2. This story features a courageous female protagonist who proves that no feat is too great for girls or boys.
  3. Engages the imagination by transporting young children to a foreign land, and expands their world beyond their everyday lives.

We loved the amazingly beautiful sets as usual. SRT never fails to put in so much efforts in their costumes and props, so that is another reason why my girls and I look forward to every production of theirs.

SRT7

Treasure Island has a fine mixture of puppetry, songs, beautiful props and of course, energetic expression by all of their actors.

srt15

The musical itself has a slightly different twist from the original story but you will definitely enjoy it. Every single production of SRT/TLC also has a moral or learning point at the end of it. As we all know it, kids will only be relieved once  the story ends nicely – they will always expect the good to prevail and the bad to be punished or to somehow repent. HAHA.

Want a little preview?

Okay watch this!

LOOKS LIKE FUN, RIGHT?

Treasure Island will reiterate to their young audience (and their not so young audience) on the importance of friendship over anything else.

Human relationship is the real treasure in life.

“Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate.”

The Enormous Turnip: i-Theatre

Today, we brought the girls to School of The Arts (SOTA) for The Enormous Turnip!

tet-4

(Tops by www.thenadyas.com)

It was our first time watching a production by i-Theatre so I was definitely looking forward to it.

The girls? Obviously. They have read the story before and since they knew what to expect for the show in terms of the storyline, they were more excited than me!

My feedback?

The Enormous Turnip was entertaining, fast-paced, engaging and interactive. I like how the characters often communicated with their little audience from time to time. By little, I meant the kids and not the size of the crowd. The crowd was huge! LOL.

Just do not be late because you will not be able to enter the drama theatre as and when you like. That was what happened to Tatek! We arrived exactly at 2.30 pm so since he still had to find parking space, the girls and I alighted first and rushed to the theatre. We made it! Tatek’s entry was restricted until a suitable time during the performance. Arriving late for concerts or gigs is not a big deal. But arriving late for theatre performance is something that other theatergoers will find very annoying. When you arrive late, you will have to interrupt everybody else’s concentration as you scramble and apologize your way to your seat. It will just make matters worse if your seat is in the middle row. But most importantly, spare a thought for the poor actors and what a big distraction you will be/cause.

tet-1

The Enormous Turnip is the story of a tiny mouse – and an enormous turnip.

Eek the mouse’s dream is to be noticed.

Diggory the Gardener’s dream is to enter a completion and win a prize for his vegetables.

And then in his garden, a turnip grows and keeps on growing!

How will they pull the Enormous Turnip out of the ground?

tet-2

And oh, you can even meet and greet the characters and snap a photo together right after the show!

tet-5

You have to bring your kids to watch this one during the school holidays! I am going to watch quite a number of theatre productions with the girls during the holidays because we just love how theatre/drama promotes literacy knowledge like fluency, vocabulary and comprehension in the most subtle way ever.

Selfie in a studio: iSnap

When was the last time I actually went to a photo studio to have photos taken with the family?

abc34

Imagine going to a professionally-equipped personal photo studio with various backdrops/costumes/props for you to choose from, and armed with DSLR cameras and studio lightings for you and your loved ones to take fun and endless number of photos…

WITHOUT THE NEED FOR A PHOTOGRAPHER!

In other words, it is like taking a proper selfie using professional camera and lightings instead of mobile phones!

abc35

So the other day, I decided to spend my girls day out with my three daughters by surprising them with a visit to iSnap!

 abc16

iSnap is the first photography company in Singapore that offers various professionally-equipped personal studio rooms for you to take personal or selfie photos of yourselves, friends or families without the need of a photographer.

They have 6 individual studio rooms in total with a total of 24 themes/backdrops for you to choose from!

Individual rooms means privacy for you and your loved ones!

THEY WENT BONKERS THE MOMENT THEY SAW THE COLLECTION OF COSTUMES AND PROPS!

I am not kidding! They could not decide on which costume to wear first so I told them to keep calm and listen to what the staff from iSnap had to say.

abc36

  1. First, choose the backdrop that you would like & let the helpful staff know

abc37

  1. Choose the costumes and props you would like to wear

 abc33

  1. Go to the studio room with the chosen backdrop

 abc31

  1. Close the door to ensure that you get all the privacy that you need
  2. Look at the big screen and position yourself for the camera

 abc29

 abc27

  1. Now you are ready to snap, snap, snap using the remote shutter

abc26

  1. Once you are done with the backdrop, you can choose another backdrop!

ONCE WE UNDERSTOOD HOW iSnap WORKS, I GAVE THE GIRLS THE PERMISSION TO GO CRAAAAAAAZY.

The girls wanted to be animals first. So we chose a backdrop with a safari theme, and then proceeded to choose our animal costumes!

No prize for correctly guessing what happened next.

WE WENT WILD, LITERALLY.

 abc22

abc15

abc17

Now all the photos taken in the studio that I am showing are the digital copies that iSnap allowed us to bring home!

Next, the girls decided that they wanted to be characters from Frozen! So what did they do? Choose the backdrop. Choose the costumes. Proceed to the studio room with the chosen backdrop. Close the door. Snap away! (Mind you, they took the photos themselves while I had a breather outside.)

Let it go, let it go

Can’t hold it back anymore

Let it go, let it go

Turn away and slam the door

 abc6abc21

abc23

abc20

abc5

SO MUCH FUN, RIGHT?

Indeed. My girls kept on laughing and giggling.

Next change? They wanted to be pixies! LOL.

 abc2

 abc1

Then they decided to cast a spell on me and turn me into a frog.

 abc13

The spell did not work obviously because you can never wish for a bad thing to happen to your mummy. LOL.

So they had to settle for a loving mummy instead.

Awwwwwwwww.

abc10

And last but not least, we decided to just sit on go easy and sit on the swing chair for some photos with our actual outfits.

 abc9

I then let the girls take charge and left them on their own while I had a quick chat with the staff from iSnap.

I was laughing uncontrollably when I viewed the photos later on.

YOU SEE LAH!

abc32

abc12

abc7

abc8

abc19

Yes, there is no limit to the number of photos you take within that one-hour of booking!

The best thing is, you get to keep all the digital copies of the photos taken in high-res, and they will even print out for you 5 chosen photos FREE!

abc28

Thank you iSnap for such a fun and memorable experience!

 abc25

Barely five minutes after we left iSnap and my girls were asking whether we would be making another visit to iSnap! It was obvious they enjoyed themselves truly.

For more information, you can find iSnap in Facebook by typing iSNAP THE SELFIE PLACE.

Bounce with me.

Yes, bounce.

(I will get to the bouncing part soon.)

But for now,

ich-3

I was ready to create a scene that day.

My day did not start off good. So it was only natural for me to be in a foul mood.

ich-4

See, 4 pm was my appointment with a bunch of guys, and I arrived at 4 pm sharp too. I was expecting some latecomers, truth be told. I was telling myself on my way there, “The latecomer will get one sinister remark from me!”

The moment I reached the venue, lo and behold!

I saw the rest of the guys already waiting for me at the entrance of the cafe.

ICH-5

I was (quietly) impressed lah.

I did not show it, obviously. Heh.

I detest people who chronically late because I am chronically early. Like, even If I know that I will be delayed by 5 minutes due to unavoidable reasons like bad hair day or eyeliner for right eye goes a different direction, I will inform the person waiting for me so that at least he/she knows that I am held up somewhere. Come on guys, that’s basic courtesy. I understand totally if you are busy because you have a very busy life. But if you are late for no apparent reason or late with reasons that you make up on the spot, then please let me know in future so that I can plan my events around you. No, I am not chastising you.

I guess these guys from Icon Interior Design know how I am like by now. So it is very hard for me to find fault with them most of the time because it is so obvious that they are very careful whenever I am involved and they know what exactly will tick me off all the time. I am treated like a fragile item. And mind you, one of them is the big boss, and he was there on time for the meeting yesterday!

Once again, I have to thank my buddy Fauzi Anuar for the photos (except for Topaz!) and for agreeing to work with us despite the really short notice and super tight deadline.

The houses that we visited were indeed beautiful, but his photos (and great interior photography skills) will always add an extra umphhh to the houses, and make them strikingly beautiful!

Fauzi Anuar can be found HERE and HERE too! You can also view his other photography works (such as food photography) here. LOL.

Just to recap, here are the prizes that await the top three winners!

ICH-1

ich-2

I will announce the results on November 10 2015!

VOTE WISELY.

You know what happens when you do not vote wisely, right?

Oh wait, before you vote, it is important to listen to the speech made by the finalists too, right?

(Lol this reminds me so much of GE2015)

Want to hear what the homeowners had to say?

ICH-7

WAIT, WAIT!

Before I show you the video of each finalist, I need to add this very important disclaimer.

ich-8

And oh, nobody was drugged prior to the interview too.

BAHAHA!

Now, let us watch all the video interviews and get to know the wonderful homeowners even better.

.

.

.

.

FINALIST 1:

(They first met when they were working at Starbucks Coffee, you know?)

.

.

FINALIST 2:

(The homeowner offered us Ben & Jerry’s ice cream when we came!)

.

.

FINALIST 3:

(Want to know the best part? Nobody knows that they have moved house, so perhaps after reading this post, all their relatives and friends will know! LOL)

.

.

FINALIST 4:

(Their son is not scared of horror movies! Can you imagine it? During the photoshoot, they were all watching The Conjuring but their son was like checking his nails out instead. Apparently, he was just waiting for the scary part of the show.)

.

.

FINALIST 5:

(I swear their house looks really big for a BTO! I was really amazed by the size of their house!)

">

I would like to thank a new addition to the Icon Interior Design (behind the scenes) team, Zeenol! I remember looking for a videographer the other time for this project, and his ever so sweet girlfriend told me to check out Zeenol’s portfolio. I checked, I was awed, I PM-ed him, and the rest is history. Thank you for the dedication and patience, Zeenol! Thank you for also providing subtitles to all the videos! HAHA! You can check out Zeenol’s portfolio HERE! Oh yes, this guy can really sing, okayyyyy? Go check out all his song covers! My favourite will be this cover he did with his sweet girlfriend, Dania. Click HERE HERE HERE  to be mesmerized by this cute couple!

On a serious note, I would really like to thank the homeowners for their warm hospitality, the good food, and for agreeing to have themselves interviewed. I appreciate their spontaneity during the interview because I really wanted them to be themselves and say what they felt like saying. You guys were really amazing, so regardless of the results, MY BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU! Thank you so much for believing in me, my blog, and most importantly, ICON INTERIOR DESIGN!

OKAY NOW, LET’S VOTE!

ich-15

This will be the third year I have been working together with Shafee and one year plus with Icon Interior Design.

Want me to explain why?

I just like how passionate these guys are about their work, and how truly humble they are despite their status. Whenever I have a discussion with them, it is hardly about “How much will we earn from the customer ah?” But more about “Let’s think of a nice and unique design, and reasonable renovation cost for this house.” They ALWAYS have the customers’ budget in mind. I like working with people with the right and positive attitude. Like, they know they are in the interior design line and their main job is to turn a house into a home. It’s not just about renovating a house fast just so that their commission will come in fast too.

For a start, I do not quite believe that customers are ALWAYS right. Now, I am a customer too but that does not mean that I can abuse my rights as one just because of that overrated saying, “Customers are always right.” What’s right is right regardless of who you are, and what’s wrong will always be wrong. That’s a fact. But these days, I see a lot of customers who like to abuse their rights and degrade the one at the receiving end just because they are PAYING.

The reason why some customers end up getting into a dispute with the renovation company they engage is because they quite often ask for the impossible. Like for instance, they do not want to proceed with the progressive payment just because they see a little glitch or defect and they will start making demands like, “I will not pay until you settle this defect.” But you do understand that it is not the same worker who is doing the entire renovations works for your house right? The ID will engage several contractors who are in charge of different sections or works i.e. tilers, plumbers, electricians, carpenters and more. So if you refuse to proceed with the progressive payment just because of a slight defect that is made by the tiler for instance, then the entire renovation works will have to stop. Meaning electrical works cannot carry on. Carpentry cannot go on. Painting cannot go on. One work needs to be completed before another work can start. Cannot do all at one time, one.

Did you know that?

Now, this is how almost ALL renovation firms work – you don’t continue with your payment, they cannot continue with their work too. Why? The workers would not want to come knowing that there will be a delay in their daily wage. I mean, who then is going to pay their workers? Who then will pay for the subsequent materials needed?

Now I am saying the above with reference to my personal experience. I had a very bad experience with one renovation company right before my wedding. The contractor was undeniably very rude from the moment renovation works started and did not want to continue with the renovation works because my dad did not want to pay the progressive payment. Why? Well, my perfectionist dad saw defects and did not like the workmanship. We even went to CASE. But we eventually had to pay the renovation company in order to get the renovation work completed because as explained by CASE, defects are usually attended to once the renovations works are completed. And in my case, I had a deadline. My wedding was just a week away! So if I really wanted to stick to being difficult, I would not gain anything from it either.

DISCLAIMER TIME BEFORE YOU START ASSUMING THAT I AM ONE SIDED.

Now, of course not ALL renovation companies are reliable and yes, there have been instances where the renovation companies went MISSING or did not complete the renovation works after payment was made. I have read about them. I am sure you have too.

THEY DO EXIST.

Sorry to say but those renovation companies who like to go missing after the contract is signed are usually the ones who will promise the customers the cheapest quotation and basically, promise them the world.

WHY YOU WANT THE CHEAPEST WHEN YOU ARE NOT EVEN SURE OF THE COMPANY’S PROFILE OR THE QUALITY OF THE MATERIALS USED?

If you want my advice, go for quality first but stick to something within your budget. Budget is of utmost importance. Quality can last you for as long as you are staying in the same house without much maintenance or repair work required.

Which will save you more money in the long run?

This is the reason why you need to engage a highly recommended renovation/interior design company. I recommend what, so if I recommend wrongly, you can always email me and feedback to me. I will find a way out for you, definitely. Everything can always be resolved in a nice manner. See, at least there is assurance on my part.

 Here’s the thing.

ICH-6

…and I am always at Downtown East E-Hub too, you know? LOL.

Besides, all the customers that come from my blog will be categorized as ETRANGLE CUSTOMERS. You know what that means? That means, “Must handle with extra care because they come from Diah and if we don’t get the job done properly, they will go to Diah. And if we make Diah angry, all hell breaks loose.”

BAHAHAHA.

That’s how special my readers are.

(And that’s how special I am too.)

LOL.

Icon Interior Design is very professional in the sense that should there be some defects that homeowners notice during the renovation, they prefer to let the renovation works carry on (to prevent delay in the timeline already provided) and they will rectify all defects at one go once the renovation work is done. That’s how they do it. So if homeowners keep delaying the entire process by refusing to pay the progressive payment for instance, is it reasonable for them to blame it solely on the interior design company if the deadline cannot be met?

Just think about it.

And at the end of the day, these guys from Icon Interior Design are my very good friends. These are the same people I hang out with. These are the ones I invite over for lunch. I have so much faith in them and their work. I know they will never disappoint me. Disappointing my readers is as good as disappointing me. You can ask the guys from Icon Interior Design, especially Shafee. I will get angry and demand an explanation from them regardless of who was at fault.

With that, I present to you…

ich-17
